Identifying Magnetic Materials Investigation!
You probably know what magnets are. Magnetism is a very mysterious force! It is a force that attracts or repells certain objects. Objects are magnetic because the electrons, which spin around an atom’s nucleus, are spinning in the same direction (they are all lined up). The spinning electrons create an invisible magnetic field, which can attract certain types of metal.
Now that you know the basics of magnetism, let’s see if you are good at identifying what things are magnetic and what things are not!
For this investigation, you need:
- A pencil/pen
- A small magent (it can be a simple refrigerator magnet)
- Materials that will be tested: a coin, wood table, glass window, plastic, iron nail, refrigerator surface, and scissors
