Fact of the Day Image Nov. 15th

DNA or deoxyribonucleic acid is the the set of proteins in your cells that make you, you! It is basically the instruction manual for cells, or building blocks of life. The DNA tells cells what to do in order to function and keep functioning. You may think that since cells are small, small enough that we can’t see them, that only a little bit of DNA can fit in them, but that’s not true!

There is about 6 feet of DNA in a SINGLE cell in the body! That is a lot of protein! Since there are thousands of cells in a single human body, there is about a billion miles of DNA in a person’s body! That is like travelling from the Sun to Pluto and back 17 times! DNA is squished inside of a cell’s nucleas or center. That makes it so that about 6 feet of DNA can be squeezed inside of a cell! That is how much DNA, or the instruction manual for our body, there is in one human! All of that DNA in such a small space.
