Fact of the Day Image Nov. 24th

Venus is the second planet from the Sun. It is a rocky planet with an atmosphere of Carbon dioxide. Venus is also the hottest planet in the Solar System! It is over 900°F!! How is Venus so scorching hot?

It is all due to the Carbon dioxide atmosphere. Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas, which means that it traps heat. When the Sun’s rays shine on Venus, the Carbon dioxide magnifies and traps the Sun’s heat. That is called the greenhouse effect. The trapped heat is what makes Venus hotter than a pizza oven! Climate Change is also caused by the greenhouse effect and can be a big problem for Earth. It’s mindblowing that Venus can be this hot, all because of it’s atmosphere! Venus is a very special planet.
