Fact of the Day Image Dec. 8th

Elephants are very unique creatures! They have strong trunk, tusks, and of course very big legs! They are very different from other mammals in one way: they can’t jump!

Elephants are the only mammal that can’t jump! Most mammals that can jump have joints in their legs that are curved. Those curved joints help the animals create the “spring” motion in their legs. The animal will pull their joints in and let the energy out so that they can jump into the air! Elephants don’t have those curved joints. Their legs are all pointed downwards, which means that they can’t create the “spring” motion. That means that they can’t jump into the air! That is why elephants are the only mammal that can’t jump!!
