Fact of the Day Image Dec. 13th

When you think of clouds, you think about white, fluffy things. And if you think about strom clouds, you think of tall, gray clouds. The color of the clouds is actually determined by how well the cloud reflects light!

Reflection is when light from the Sun bounces off of an object. Light is actually made up of the colors of the rainbow! When we see something colorful, some colors get absrobed and the color that the object is gets reflected into our eyes! The storm clouds look dark because the water inside does not reflect light well. That causes only the darker side of the light spectrum to be reflected to our eyes. It forms a shadow in the clouds, whihc is why it looks gray!!
