The stirrup or the stapes is the smallest bone in the human body! This tiny bone is located in the middle ear. The middle ear is a part of the ear that helps send vibrations from outisde to the brain for decoding. They do this through electric signals and the nervous system. The stirrup or stapes sends vibrations from the ear drums to a special liquid that brushes up against hairs. Those hairs are attached to nerves that send signals to the brain. The stirrup is so small because it has to fit in the tiny space of your middle ear!!
