If you have not seen a hummingbird before, it is a tiny bird and it hovers in place like a helicopter! That is the hummingbird’s specialty! Hummingbirds can hover for two reasons. One is the bones that are in a hummingbird wing. Most birds have arm bones in their wings, but hummingbirds have hand bones in their wings. This helps them move around much faster. The second way is that hummingbirds flap their wings in a figure-eight pattern. This helps push out air from all sides, which helps the hummingbird hover! That same thing helps hummingbirds move backwards and even fly upside-down!
