Comets are giant balls of ice and rock that orbit a star, like the Sun! Comets contain a lot of the basic elements and lots of water/ice. Billions of years ago, when Earth was in it’s early formation, comets that crashed into Earth deposited lots of elements and small amounts of water. Lots of comets crashed into Earth, meaning that a small part of the water on Earth is actually from comets!
