Fact of the Day Image Jan. 24th

There are trillions of stars in the universe! Stars are giant burning balls of hydrogen and helium. They can be up to 800,000°F! Our own Sun is also a star. It supplies us with light and heat. A star starts as a giant “soup” of gases, ice, and rocks floating in space. These can be pieces of old stars, old planets, or gases that were formed in the beginning of the universe. Because of gravity, these gases and dust start to get pulled together and start compacting or squeezing together because of pressure. That pressure starts to squeeze the gases together and starts a process that makes the star hot and fiery. Hydrogen atoms fuse together to turn into helium! That process creates heat and light! This is how stars are formed!
