Fact of the Day Image Feb. 22nd

Animals like sea turtles and pigeons are able to sense the Earth’s magnetic field and use it to orient themselves and sense the direction! The Earth’s magnetic field is created deep inside of the Earth’s core and mantle. It is created when liquid rock and iron moves around in the Earth’s mantle. The magnetic field is what make a compass aleays point north, so these animals have their own built-in “compass”. Scientists are still learning about how this built-in “compass” works!
