55 Cancri e, a distant exoplanet, is believed to be made out of diamonds and graphite (the things that make up pencil lead)! 55 Cancri e can be a Carbon-rich planet. Graphite and diamonds are both made out of Carbon. When that Carbon is under pressure and heat, it turns into diamonds or graphite. The surface of this exoplanet is over 3,900°F, so all of that pressure is the perfect place for diamonds to form. This is still a theory and scientists are using telescopes and computer simulations to learn more about this planet that may be covered in diamonds!
