Fact of the Day Image May 17th

May 15th was the day when a total lunar eclipse was visible over the United States! The Moon appeared to turn red as you can see in the picture I took below this description! The Moon appeared to turn red because Earth’s shadow is being cast on the Moon. As the Sun rays that reflect off of the Moon reach Earth during a lunar eclipse, the blue and green light is scattered, leaving the red light which is what we see. We can see a lunar eclipse from the Moon! During the totality part of the eclipse, from the Moon, it would look like the Earth covered up the Sun and would have a “ring of fire” around it! The Moon’s surface would also appear to turn slightly red because of the reflected light!!
