Fact of the Day Image June 17th

Some of the coral in the ocean is actually losing its color! This is called coral bleaching and this happens when the oceans get too hot for the coral. Coral actually have algae living on them and those algae turn sunlight into food for the coral and also give the coral its color. But, when the oceans get too hot, the algae leave the coral and what you see remaining is colorless coral. To help stop this, scientists are figuring out ways to slow down coral bleaching and to slow down climate change, which is making the ocean warmer.
