Objects slow down on Earth because of friction. Friction is a force that gets created when two things rub together. This could be another surface or even air! Objects always slow down because of the friction between the object and the ground. But, in space, there is no friction or nothing for the object to rub up on. That is why if you were to throw something in space, it would keep going forever until it hit something!
