Fact of the Day Image May 3rd

A woodpecker’s tongue actually wraps all the way around its brain! This is to protect its tongue from damage when pecking a tree! Woodpeckers also need a long tomgue in order to be able to reach inside of the pecked hole and grab its meal which can be insects and other small animals. Their tongue is too long to fit inside of their mouth, so it wraps all the way around its brain and skull!!
